The Enchanted Brush: Watercolor Magic in Four Sessions

Sessions:

Session One – Watercolor Magic: Color, Water & the Unexpected

The first session introduces watercolor as a medium particularly suited to experimentation.

Instead of trying to completely control the paint, you will explore what happens when water, pigment, gravity, timing, and chance are allowed to participate in the creative process.

Session Two – The Enchanted Naturalist: Botanicals, Mushrooms & Woodland Wonders

The second session turns toward nature.

Many objects associated with folklore and enchantment begin with ordinary natural forms: plants, trees, mushrooms, animals, stones, feathers, flowers, and seeds.

Session Three – Moonlight, Mystery & Story: Atmosphere, Symbols & Imagined Worlds

The third session moves from individual objects toward atmosphere and visual storytelling.

Rather than asking simply, “What am I painting?”, we begin asking: “What is happening here?” and “What might have happened just before—or just after—this moment?”

Session Four – Creating Your Own Watercolor Magic: Personal Style, Collection & Creativity

Description: Step into a world where watercolor, imagination, and the beauty of nature come together. The Enchanted Brush is a four-session workshop series inspired by the whimsical artwork and creative projects found in Witchy Watercolor by Lizzy Gass. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced painter looking to add a touch of magic to your work, this series invites you to explore watercolor through a lens of wonder, storytelling, and playful creativity.

Over four inspiring sessions, participants will discover how to paint charming botanicals, celestial motifs, woodland creatures, crystals, mushrooms, magical symbols, and seasonal treasures using simple watercolor techniques. Along the way, you'll build confidence with color mixing, layering, texture, brush control, and composition while creating a collection of enchanting paintings perfect for cards, journals, bookmarks, framed artwork, or your own illustrated grimoire of creative inspiration.

Each class combines guided demonstrations with relaxed studio time, encouraging you to slow down, observe the natural world, and embrace the joy of creative exploration. There is no pressure for perfection—only an invitation to experiment, play, and discover your own artistic voice.

By the end of the series, you'll leave with a portfolio of magical watercolor projects, new artistic skills, and fresh inspiration to continue painting long after the final session.

Perfect for: Adults of all skill levels who enjoy watercolor, botanical art, folklore, fantasy, nature-inspired creativity, and the simple pleasure of making beautiful things.

No previous watercolor experience is required—just bring your curiosity, your creativity, and a willingness to let a little magic flow through your brush.

Learning goals: By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  1. Build confidence with watercolor techniques including washes, layering, glazing, lifting, texture, and expressive brushwork.
  2. Explore nature as a source of inspiration, transforming botanicals, mushrooms, celestial forms, animals, and natural objects into imaginative watercolor subjects.
  3. Use color, composition, and watercolor effects to create mood, atmosphere, and a sense of enchantment.
  4. Combine observation with imagination to develop original imagery, visual stories, and personal symbols rather than simply copying reference images.
  5. Develop your own creative watercolor voice by experimenting with recurring colors, subjects, techniques, and motifs to create a small, cohesive collection of enchanted artwork.
